HI, I'M JAMES WALKER

Health and fitness weren’t always part of my life.

I wasn’t a sporty child and avoided exercise for years. By the age of 16, I was over 16 stone, struggling with anxiety and on the receiving end of persistent bullying. I was known as “the big guy” and that label followed me everywhere.

Eventually, I reached a point where I realised I didn’t want to live like that anymore. That moment changed everything. As I began training consistently, I lost weight, built strength and (more importantly) rebuilt confidence. Everyday movement became easier. I felt capable again. That experience sparked a deep fascination with how movement, strength, nutrition and mindset can transform not just bodies, but lives.

From Personal Change to Professional Focus

I qualified as a personal trainer and built my experience across gyms and private studios, developing a strong foundation in strength training, human anatomy and physiology. I also gained my Precision Nutrition qualification to ensure the advice I gave was practical, evidence-based and sustainable.

Over time, my work naturally shifted.

I found myself working increasingly with people who weren’t looking for aesthetics — but needed support after physiotherapy, after injury, or while living with long-term conditions. Many felt unsure where to turn once clinical treatment ended. Others were anxious about movement or afraid of making things worse.

That’s where my approach truly belongs.

Why I Specialise in Post-Physio & Mobility-Focused Training

Over time, my work naturally evolved.

I began working with more clients who weren’t chasing aesthetics or performance, but instead needed support after injury, after physiotherapy, or while living with long-term conditions. Many felt unsure where to turn once clinical treatment ended. Others were fearful of movement, frustrated by slow progress, or worried about doing the “wrong” thing.

This is where my approach found its true purpose.

Today, I specialise in post-physiotherapy functional training, supporting:
   •    Stroke survivors
   •    Clients living with Parkinson’s
   •    People recovering from injury
   •    Older adults experiencing mobility or balance challenges

I am not a physiotherapist — but with over 15 years of experience, a deep understanding of human anatomy, physiology and movement, and extensive hands-on work with clients in these situations, I am able to design training that is safe, adaptive and grounded in sound movement principles.

Training is always built around what a client can do — not what they “should” be able to do.

Post-Physio & Mobility-Focused Training

Today, I specialise in post-physiotherapy functional training, working with:

   •    Stroke survivors
   •    Clients living with Parkinson’s
   •    People recovering from injury
   •    Older adults experiencing mobility or balance

challenges

I’m not a physiotherapist but with over 15 years of hands-on experience and a deep understanding of how the body moves, I design training that is safe, adaptive and built around your current ability, not assumptions.

Training focuses on improving mobility, balance, strength and confidence, helping clients move better in everyday life - not just in the gym.

My Approach

Progress doesn’t come from pressure.

It comes from patience, consistency and intelligent movement.

Every session is:
   •    Individually tailored
   •    Pain-aware and injury-conscious
   •    Adapted as your body and goals change

Just as important is the environment. Many clients arrive feeling nervous, frustrated or disconnected from their bodies. Because of my own journey, I place huge value on creating a calm, supportive and judgement-free space where people can rebuild trust in movement.

Walkerfit

In 2017, I stepped away from the traditional gym model to work independently and focus on the individual.

Today, I train clients across London, with my main private studio based in Kensington and Piccadilly Circus.

Walkerfit exists to support people who want to move with confidence again, regain independence, and feel capable in their bodies  safely, realistically and without judgement.

Walkerfit provides post-physiotherapy and functional movement training and works alongside guidance from healthcare professionals where appropriate.
